I need to buy flannel for a special pillowcase project.

What is a brand that has excellent, thick, heavy, 100% cotton flannel?

I suppose asking to find American grown and woven cotton might be slipping down the rabbit hole...but I do need to find a heavyweight, densely woven cotton flannel fabric.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I haven't sewn much with flannel but I had a ton of it given to me a few years ago. The Moda flannel that I have is exactly as you describe, thick and so so soft. It has been washed though, so I don't know exactly what it felt like before washing.

I agree with Cari - Moda flannel is awesome.  What I can add is that the flannel is densely woven and very soft prior to washing as well.  If I wanted/needed flannel for any project it would be my go to choice.  Good luck with your project.

Robert Kaufman flannel is very nice too.  I don't bother with the flannels from Joann fabrics. I made my hubby a robe from JoAnn flannel and it started falling apart after about a year.
