I have the #42, with the 3 drawers, no door. Set up with standard button controller.
I can get a newer #42 (two tone), with door, and the cool flat foot button that sticks out from the left side of the drawer stack.
Has anyone ever removed this controller and installed it on another cabinet? Is it a reasonable project, or a big pita?

This is the cabinet I am thinking of buying to pilfer the cabinet mount foot control and lift spring from.

While I haven't ever had either cabinet in front of me I've read posts on different groups from people that do. I believe the big issue is part of that mechanism you want to pilfer runs down behind the drawers and out the bottom so I don't know if the first cabinet is exactly the same space wise behind the drawers. Or maybe it's just wiring. Still. Why not just keep the second cabinet instead of all the hassle?

Space and spouse limitations. I don't need two. Besides, mine has the inkwell hole. :)
I think you are right about the space behind the drawers, or perhaps that is why on the newer unit the top drawer is only half height.
