The question that I have comes from sheer ignorance. I've never had a 503 to sit and compare side by side with a 500a. I would have thought that the two lids were identical in shape and that the only difference would have been the under lid control/stitch/info plate. I do not know if the 500a and 503 are physically different. Does anyone else have experience with both? (read: wouldn't want to step on Lori's toes if they were exactly the same, sans the info plate.)

Good question, Jim. Here's a photo of the 503.

Tammy at Archaic and Arcane has good photos of both. It appears the lid component of the 500 is shaped to accommodate the stitch selector knob. Don't know why I didn't notice that in Christy's photo.

Thanks, Christy, for checking.

Exactly!  The one for the 503 doesn't have that scooped out part in the front.

I think the nose cone is the same for both though.  Anyone need a nose cone?  😃

You're welcome Lori

I'm almost certain the only missing bit I need is the lid. I suppose... if someone was taking one apart... I need to replace the plug insert. The part where the power cable plugs into the machine. The one I have is working, but has a chunk of plastic missing. It's so 'not important' that I haven't really looked around to find one. =)
