I would like to convert my Singer 42 cabinet to a knee control from foot pedal control. Were these ever made with a knee control? If yes, any pictures so I can see how it was mounted?

I also have a question about the lift mechanism in this cabinet. It seems rather weak. It barely does anything to help me lift up the 201 that is currently in there. Is there anything I can do about this?

Please post some pictures of the sewing machine dropped into and on top of the cabinet. Please do so with a measuring tape. Without knowing how much space is available its hard to help. Also a picture of the knee control you plan to use.

Seijun, I took a look at my #42, and a #40 with knee bar.

The knee bar itself attaches to the inside front skirt. The bracket that holds the foot controller attaches to the side.

I think with the curvature of the #42 drawers, it may be difficult to pair the knee bar install to the foot controller bracket (correct depth).

There may be another system, as in the 101, but that's a whole 'nuther wee beastie.

The spring lift mechanisms are adjustable, DH did 2 of mine a few weeks ago.  These were the style with the fat round spring coil (nearly spool sized. I ~think~ it was just a matter of a one screw adjustment, but I was working the top side watching for the black space filler to be where I wanted it.

Seijun -- did you pursue the knee controller idea any further?   One thing I've liked about having a sewing cabinet in the past is not having to deal with the foot controller.  I was kind of hoping the 42 had a knee controller already when I went to buy it (hadn't researched, clearly).  I'm happy with it either way, but if something could be rigged up....     But I guess maybe Singer's answer t this problem was the built-in foot pedal on later models.
