Are there two variations of the #42 cabinet?  Both have the same drawer on the left .  But I've seen ones with three curved drawers down the right side.  Another version has a curved door on the right side that opens to a non-pull out bin at the top and two drawers below.  Both look very much the same on the outside.
Was one an earlier version than the other?

Two..or three. Depends on how you look at it.

The first version has three individual curved drawers on the right side and the left drawer with the inkwell (or not in most cases but the space for it is there...grrr) =)

The second version has a curved door that opens to expose two drawers, and a shelf, still has left drawer but no inkwell.

The third variation is nearly identical with the second, except it has the built-in pedal at the inside base of the drawer pillar, where the second version does not have the built-in pedal. It's a small difference, and difficult to see in most on line photos unless they make an effort, but it's there. =)

I do not know when these changes were made, so if you have an original desk and machine, do tell!

Nice!  Thank you, that's helpful.  I always hear about this inkwell but recently picked up a cabinet of the second type and instead of an inkwell it has a bobbin rack.  I like the design but not the color of this one so I won't be keeping it.  I've never been a fan of the white washed sort of finish.

Now that you've shown them all I remember seeing photos before of the foot lever on the later version.
