Has anyone taken one of these apart before?  It isn't held together with rings like the Singer ones so I am not sure if it's glued or just snaps together?

I think actually this does come apart. I am pretty sure mine did and it’s pretty much the same machine. I think it’s tight but it’ll come off.

I’m pretty sure that the path to victory is by pushing down, getting that bottom piece to go towards your thumb. (Does the on/off switch offer any assistance in the pushing down process? I have a memory that it might...)

The cleaning is the best part!

Do you mean to try and slide the bottom piece to the back?  Hmmm...  I will see what I can do.

I think you are right.  I've tried to slide it, twist off the knob, pry it apart and there is no give.  I can't find anything on-line either other than ads for replacements.

The wiring isn't awful at the light.  It's gross farther down from where it went through the rubber grommet at the back of the machine.  I think I'll solder the new wires on and cover with shrink tape.  I can probably hide the transition behind the motor.
