Anyone have pointers to how-tos or tutorials or discussions on making long bobbins?

Jon has just informed me (off-forum) that Davis boat shuttle bobbins are quite rare.  So I'm thinking of making my own, and I have some ideas, but would rather do a survey of the current "maker scene" for bobbins before starting...  if there is one.  :-)

Since I have one functional bobbin, I'm not desperate.  And I'm also not stuck on "authentic reproduction".  I'm more in the "what will work" camp.

Related question:  is there a list/spreadsheet floating around with length/diameter measurements for the "common" antique machines?  I measured all of mine today, and it felt a little like "I'll bet someone has already done this".

I'm planning on it, for the Howe. It will be a while before I have time to get to it, though.

I did think there was a spreadsheet, but I tried to search for it recently and had no luck.
