Hey folks, there was some talk about a get together in February.

I am available to drive to Seattle area on the weekend of the 13/14/15th if there is an interest.

We would drive up Saturday, visit Sunday, Drive home Monday

Thoughts?

Ok folks,

A change of plans seems to be in order....sigh

Last night at the dinner table my stepson and his girlfriend (who live with us) let us know that they are moving to Vancouver WA.

They let us know that they want to stay here through the 27th which is her birthday so she can spend some time with friends before moving.

The weekend after that I am in a Rallycross race in the Sacramento area.

SO, what that means is that it looks like we will NOT be driving up on the 13/14/15 of this month, but rather we will be taking a vacation day either Friday the 11th of March or Monday the 14th of march and driving them up with our trailer loaded with their belongings then.

With that being the case, I do not want to drive that twice in one month.....

How do folks feel about meeting on the 12th or 13th of March?  Whichever would work for the most folks, will determine if I take Friday or Monday off.

The GOOD news is that I will be driving up to Vancouver with an enclosed trailer.

I will be in a position to "Pony Express" up and back if need be.

I would love to meet some of you folks and by March Snoqualmie Pass should be clear (double fatality accident there this morning), so I would be okay doing the drive...would you meet in Vancouver or Seattle? I could bring that stinkin' 404 with the messed up...well, everything! It was a school machine.

What all Is wrong with the 404? One time I bought a dozen of them I still have a parts machine... Don't know what is left though.

Miriam - it's mostly that I had a temper tantrum while trying to remove the tensioner to clean it... This poor old machine - the oiling holes have broken off drill bits in them, probably because the students just poured oil into the machine.. So I cleaned it and cleaned it, and my arthritis was kicking in, then the elbow tendinitis flared up, and I was just so mad!!! So I tried to sew with it and it wouldn't, so I thought I'd clean the tensioner. Now the spring is all messed up and it's just sitting in a case until I'm not mad at it anymore! Could take a long time!

In the meantime, I've acquired a 316w and a 403 that I haven't even looked at. Mostly been sewing - it's easier than the machines. But I will get back to them when I have my bow tie quilt done - soon, I hope.

PS if someone wants that 404, let me know. Free to a good home, but not with the case.

Margaret, there is some info in Tammii's Utube and blog. She should be joining up in a few days. She has a couple classes to teach first. That tension isn't too bad to fix. The 500 series is much harder to deal with. You could send it here and I could work it over and send it back but they really aren't hard to fix. I had to rework every one of the ones I bought. That was when I just started cleaning up tensions routinely. Drill bits in oil holes... LOL. Most of the machines I got had autographs carved into the beds. I tried to track one that was legible on Google then figured out he might be a criminal... I should lift what I posted from QB so we can all get a good laugh.

OK, BACK to the subject at hand......

Would Saturday or Sunday be better for most folks?  (Makes a difference on which day I take off, which needs to be decided soon)

It makes no difference to me what day you come. I'm wondering though if Rodney or me or you shouldn't post this on QB too because not a lot of PNW people have made it over here yet.

Oh, and I have a 404 with issues too, lol.

OK Folks,

The plan is final.  I am leaving the Bay Area on Saturday Morning the 12th of March, Spending Sunday the 13th of March on the Seattle(ish) area (location TBD) and returning Monday the 14th.

Anyone want to get together on Sunday?

If so, reply with your location and "range" and I will try to select a location that gives the most amount of available folks.

I will be bringing some machines to show

  • 1880 Jones Hand Machine
  • 1878ish Wheeler & Wilson #8 Hand crank
  • 1890ish Wheeler & Wilson #9 "Shorty" Hand crank
  • 1863 James Weir New England Chainstitcher
  • 1864 Raymond New England Chainstitcher
  • 1895 Frister & Rossmann TS Hand crank

  • New Home Midget hand crank

I will be bringing some machines to SELL

I may have a few OLD parts heads available cheap as well (Howe, W&W#8, etc) These are NOT complete or working machines. JUST machines I bought for specific parts that I needed

EDIT: I am copying this to a new thread to help make it more informative on the title

So, closer to Olympia is better?  I'm coming from the east side, and can cut down south if need be.  I really want to be there! Or I can go to Seattle.
