I thought I would bring this to a new thread. I saw http://www.victoriansweatshop.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1290959016&postcount=23 and it reminded me of one of my machines. It is posted on page 29 of the Japanese badged Zig-Zag machines on that other board. Mine has BIC cast in the bottom and a JA5. I still haven't replaced the tension on that one. Evidently it will sometimes be badged as "Home Mark" but the picture is no longer available on Ebay.

Janey you nailed it. I was wondering why the one I'm having such an issue with didn't look unfamiliar. Well now at least with the pic I showed you know exactly what your tension assembly looked like. In fact, I've got a Brother tension assembly that might work for you.
HomeMark had several models, I've got one that looks nothing like this one. I'll try to post pics later today.

I know I've seen the knobs on that pink Brother on other brands of machines too.  That "V" on them is pretty distinctive.

I was thinking that too, but I have a hard time remembering things about other manufacturers. Another thing about that machine that's bugging me is the outside of the knobs. The stitch width is typical Brother but the stitch length isn't.
